Juicey News: How Willow Heard Her Parents Voices for the First Time at 10-Months-Old

By Micaela Aboody

21-Month-old Willow was born deaf and diagnosed with Congenital CMV – an infection transferred from mother to baby during pregnancy – she hasn’t been able to hear anything until about a year ago.

Willow’s Mum, Ami, explains she heard about Hear and Say through a friend and is very grateful for their support and providing Willow with hearing aids and teaching her to speak.

“We didn’t even know it would be possible for Willow to get cochlear implants or to learn and to listen and to speak or for Willow to be able to catch up to her peers, it’s pretty incredible to hear her say ‘Mum Mum Mum Dad Dad Dad’,” she said.

Ami explains when Willow first had her cochlear implants put on, herself and her husband, Jesse, were both very overwhelmed.

“As soon as she had her cochlear implants on and Jesse said ‘Willow’ she looked straight up at him and touched his mouth and we both just burst into tears,” Ami explained.

After almost a year, Willow is walking around naming animals and their sounds and loves everything to do with music.
