On Sunday Dementia Australia ran their annual Memory Walk/Jog event and this year volunteer, Gemma, decided to join in and help raise funds for the cause but also in memory of her Mother’s best friend.
“Her name was Carol, or my Mum use to refer to her as ‘my Carol’ which is beautiful, Carol was 58 years old when she started showing signs of dementia, she was very intelligent and very smart and just very down to earth,” she said.
This is her first year joining in and running 15km but says it won’t be her last as she is encouraging friends to join her next year and “hopefully have a crowd”.
“I know Dementia Australia do a quite lot for supporting families and I just wanted to help raise that little bit more money for the cause and do what I can,” Gemma said.
