TLDR: Matt Cornell joined Elerrina and Jodie on Fri-Yay Live talk about his new single with Mike Carr and plays one of his own songs ‘My Soundtrack’.
Country singer, Matt Cornell, explains he has always been around the music industry all his life with his mum and dad always singing and touring.
“I just feel like the music business picked me instead of me picking it,” Matt said.
Moving to the Gold Coast from Sydney in 2018 he feels like he fits in with the many country artists and has also been nominated for 5 Gold Guitar Awards.
“I haven’t won any of the awards I’ve been nominated for but I got nominated and I think it’s the industries way of giving you a hug and patting you on the back and saying ‘hey you’re doing a good thing'”, he said.
Matt started a duo with Mike Carr (called Cornell and Carr) about 3 years ago when doing a gig and decided to release a single together.
However, with border closures they have had to rely on technology and socials to write and release songs.
“Writing through Face Time has become normal,” he said.
Cornell and Carr have their new single called Whatchawanna which is a very uplifting song.
“It’s a real light hearted song about doing whatever you wanna do and what makes you happy,” Matt explains.
Matt explains his song My Soundtrack is about artists and bands he grew up with and inspired him to be an artist.
“Everything from The Beatles to The Beach Boys… and then I discovered my music in the 80’s and I’m a real 80’s junkie,”
