TLDR: Indie rock group Chutney stopped by to perform their hit song ‘Talk’ live in studio and chat up some of their exciting schedule

Friyay is the Gold Coast’s special day of the week where local musos get their time in the spotlight, this time featuring indie rock group Chutney (not to be confused with the condiment). El and Jodie were joined by half the band, lead vocalist Matt and lead guitarist Cal.

Chutney was formed a couple of years ago as all four band members were affiliated with different acts. They quickly recognised each other as thinking on the same wavelength, turning their passion for indie rock into the band ‘Chutney.’ Flowing with an infectious energy, Chutney’s songs are like crazy sunshine to the ears.

The lead vocalist, Matt, depicts the four-piece as showing a healthy collaborative style of writing. They are self-described as “warm, resonant vocals, pulsing bass lines, thrashing drums, and lush vibrant guitar,” highlighting the remarkable contributions from all the bandmates.

Unfortunately, since covid Chutney has had to post-pone many gig opportunities, a particularly tragic one being the chance to open for legendary Australian hard rock group Wolfmother. The fated date is still on for Warwick apparently, so surely that’s something to keep an eye out for.

It’s likely they’ll be showcasing there one of Chutney’s most renowned singles, ‘Talk,’ a song inspired by the modern age of social connection and mental health. The band, along with their friend group, maintain a comfortable dynamic where they can share struggles, stories, and spars, a vital aspect of a healthy human being. From these discussions, ‘Talk’ was born to display to the world of the positivity that can emerge from something so simple.

You can listen to the interview and live performance of ‘Talk’ below, or you can hit up Chutney on Spotify, or see their upcoming events on Instagram or Facebook.
