TLDR: Good Taste Brekky hosts Elerrina and Jodie interview international superstar Johnny Manuel.
Elerrina and Jodie had the honour of welcoming international superstar and 2020 Voice Australia finalist Johnny Manuel to Good Taste Breaky.
If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Johnny competed in America’s Got Talent in 2012 and made it all the way to the semi-finals.
Johnny Manuel competed as a finalist in The Voice Australia in 2020 under Guy Sebastian’s team, and even released an LP as a child under a stage name.
Elerrina asked, “you have said you love experimenting with fashion; what does it mean to you?”
“I think when I was younger it was how I hid from people, and now it is how I introduce and present myself,” Johnny said. “I’m having a lot of fun working with brands such as Gucci and Valentino, who dressed me exclusively for the film clip for Sober.”
“Speaking of Sober, that is your latest single, can you tell us how it came about and what it means?” Elerrina asked.
“I actually wrote it Terrigal, New South Wales, when I was living there right after filming The Voice, with Michael Fatkin and Scott Richie who was on Zoom, and we started talking about past relationships,” Johnny said.
He muses the idea of crazy past relationships but that his current partner keeps him sober, and that’s how the song came around.
“Throughout everything that’s happening in the world, we do need that someone or something to keep our mind fresh and sober,” Elerrina said.
Jodie proceeds to ask a few little 5 Second Rule questions to know a little bit more about Johnny.
“What’s the best prank that you’ve ever played on anyone?” Jodie asked.
“I put a snake in the shower while my mum was showering,” Johnny laughs.

Johnny is currently visiting Los Angeles to work on an upcoming album with the help of Australian artist and producer Nick Littlemore, who has worked with artists like Elton John, Groove Armada and was also the music composer for Cirque Du Soleil.
