TLDR: Amy Sheppard from Brisbane pop group Sheppard joined Elerrina and Jodie to talk all things body image and her new song ‘The Reasons Why’ written for her wedding day.
Amy Sheppard, who is 1/3 of the Aussie pop group Sheppard, caught up with Elerrina and Jodie to talk all about body image.
Elerrina explains how she saw a video by Amy on her Instagram about how you can change what your entire body looks like with just a few clicks.
“It was really easy, in just a few pinches and swipes I had lost 20kgs and had some fillers and lip injections,” Amy said.
With teens and kids on Instagram they are constantly seeing their idols looking “perfect” and they can believe this is what they have to look like to be accepted.
“To never see things that are perceived flaws such as cellulite and wrinkles and all normal human features to become not normal anymore and these girls are growing up thinking there is something wrong with them when it’s just totally normally,” Amy said.
Amy explained her reason for posting about this came from a place of self-conciousness, insecurity and being bullied for her weight when growing up and even more so when coming into the public eye.
“I felt like I had to fit into this perfect little pop star box and it made me really unhappy to pretend I was someone I wasn’t,” she explained.
“I do encourage to people look in the mirror and not hate… people are not doing the fun things because they’re worried about being judged… it’s what you think of yourself that matters the most,”
Recently, Amy got married and wrote a song for her now husband, Lachy, called The Reasons Why.
She chose to present it to him right before he was to stand at the alter on their wedding day and even performed for their weddings guests as an extra surprise.
“There are photos of him holding back tears and he was so excited,” Amy said.
