Pastor, youth worker and co-founder of The Marriage Co., Jason Dawkins, shared with Juice 107.3 about the most common mental illness in Australia today, anxiety.

He started off by explaining how we should ride the trigger of anxiety and work our way through it and relating it to today’s pandemic.

“None of us are foreign to the stress and anxiety happening in the world right now,” Jason said.

He used surfing as an analogy explaining a surfer will navigate their way through the waves and the dumping of a wave can be very powerful and this can represent anxiety.

“You get caught up in the white wash of feeling anxious… and a surfer will then get behind that and the very thing they were resisting and navigating has now turned into the power, the propulsion… Turning your pain into purpose,” Jason explained.

Allow the trigger to be the fuel on the inside to light and rocket into your next season of life.

Jason explained it’s all about lessons and seeing what you learnt through the situation and understanding that and applying it to other situations in your life.

3 things you can do to “ride your trigger”:

  1. Realise the pain can make you better than when you went into it
    • The pain has a purpose
  2. Write down the pros and cons of the situation
    • Find the places you could have improved and what you can learn from it.
  3. Allow the process to heal you
    • Go into the season healed and this will help you to move forward.
