This week’s Good News Story features Kelly and her son Michael, who attend the Arundel Park Riding for Disabled.
Michael, aged 9, was diagnosed with Hemiconvulsion-hemiplegia-epilepsy (HHE) syndrome, an uncommon consequence of prolonged focal febrile convulsive seizures.
At the age of 4 he started horse riding and his mother, Kelly, believes it has helped him in so many ways.
“Horse riding helped his walking, his strength and his core muscles,” Kelly said.
Even after two brain surgeries Michael was back riding a horse within months. Kelly believes he will be riding for the rest of his life.
“He fell in love with the horses straight away. His confidence levels just soared and once a week that therapy has helped him with confidence, communication and learning new words.”
Our new Good News segment highlights acts of kindness, achievements and amazing stories from local charities to the more personal accomplishments of local Gold Coasters.
