For the first time as a program, Variety Queensland are holding their Activate Inclusion Sports Day for kids with disabilities to try out different types of sports.
Variety QLD Support Manager, Angela Haines, explains it aims to provide those with a disability more opportunities to try a sport they may not have had the chance to before.
“They trial a range of sports along side specialised coaches to get a taste of it and hopefully enjoy and we help them join up to a local club,” Angela said.
With over 100 students expected, they will have the chance to try several types of sports on rotation throughout the day.
“We have an opening ceremony and then they try the sport and then a closing ceremony and then they get set home with a goodie bag and have a flyer sent home to parents,” Angela said.
21-year-old Tokyo Silver Medalist and Paralympian, Paige Leonhardt, will also be there on the day to support and encourage the kids.
Activate Inclusion Sports Day is being held Wednesday 20th October at Coomera Indoor Sports Centre. To find out more go to Variety QLD.
