Altru, a charity organisation dedicated to bringing love, dignity, and compassion to the disadvantaged, is set to kick off its annual outreach series of events ‘Altru Festival’ on 11th November 2023 at Musgrave Park, Brisbane.
The festival aims to bring together marginalised individuals and those experiencing social inequalities, offering them a day to connect through live music, while also giving them immediate access to essential services such as haircuts and dental healthcare.
Altru’s series of events series of events is a unique charity outreach program that combines live music, mentorship, healthcare, job opportunities, and festival fun. The event series first began in 2014 in Skid Row, Los Angeles, when co-creator Jessie McLachlan decided instead of having a standard LA birthday party, she would celebrate in a different kind of way with a party on Skid Row.
‘What started out as a shared birthday party to give back to the community in some small way, has now built into a charity that fosters sincere human connection, enabling underprivileged people to connect despite any adversity. It is a fun and effective way to be involved in the community, where your dollar and time in creating joy in someone else’s life is tangible and happens before your eyes.’’
Today the ‘Altru Festivals’ have become a catalyst for change, raising awareness in an innovative and uplifting way. Altru aims to raise awareness of the true statistics regarding underprivileged communities and at-risk youth. The charity identifies and endorses effective prevention and solutions in an effort to bridge the gap in government funding. This means, initiating projects that directly address these issues, all with the support of the philanthropic community.
Altru is now set to launch a series of events in Australia, kicking off with the first event on the 11th November at Musgrave Park in Brisbane.
Altru have garnered support from music artists, athletes and celebrities all over the world, with support from the Irwin family, Josephine Langford, James O’Connor, Shepherd, Josh Pyke, David Foster, Mischa Barton and Olivia Obrien.
