The airwaves simply won’t be the same as fan favourites Luke and Susie Holt announced they were finishing up their national daily show.
After working together delivering a breakfast radio program on Melbourne’s 89.9 LightFM, another 2 years on Juice1073 on the Gold Coast, Luke and Susie began their own national radio show and podcast in 2016.
They recently announced the tough decision they’d come to as a team, that they would be finishing up The Luke and Susie Show with their final show broadcasting on Thursday 28th March 2024.
“Radio is just such a fun media to be a part of, right?” Susie said.
“Cause we get to talk to remarkable people every day. And, that’s listeners. That’s contributors. That’s, interviews that we get to do. We get to just sit there and get all the wisdom from all of these amazing stories.”
The Luke and Susie show has most recently been broadcast in Breakfast, but it wasn’t just a local affair; it spanned across the nation, broadcasting across community and Christian radio stations where resources were scarce.
“It was a whole new way of doing Christian radio” Susie said.
“But across the country, other stations just like this one haven’t had that same support and don’t have the same means. So that’s why we developed a model of doing the Luke and Susie show that meant that we could speak into those markets where maybe they don’t have other talent available.”
Luke and Susie reminisced about their past escapades, trips overseas promoting missions work and all the incredible people they’ve spoken to over the years. Susie recalled an interview with Olivia Newton-John, a mix of excitement and heartbreak when the audio mysteriously corrupted. Such moments encapsulate the rollercoaster ride of their radio journey, filled with loud boisterous laughter, tears, and everything in between.
So what’s next for Luke and Susie?
“Hunger, starvation, and sleeping in a swag” Luke joked.
“That’s not just a joke. That is literally what’s happening right now because our next project is a fatherhood project where there’s a documentary, a live stage show and, and a whole lot of things”.
“We want people to catch the cause and understand. What we’re trying to do is raise the bar on the role of fatherhood.”
“In order to get people to catch the cause, I’ve made a commitment that I’m going to only eat what I catch until 200 people sign up to say, I’m going to be a part of this and I’m terrible at fishing.”
