#GoodNewsFriday is here! We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to celebrate someone bringing hope to the Gold Coast
Key Points:
- Ps John Green, workplace chaplain, visiting staff at 400 workplaces across the Gold Coast
- With his kind smile, Ps John has become your friendly neighborhood chaplain instead of Spider-Man… that’s the drive behind workplace chaplain, to reach the community and to help out because there’s a real need.
Did you catch the good news story about this guy who walks around businesses on the Gold Coast? He’s a happy go lucky guy, a real people person who just kind of wanders in and says, ‘so how are you going?’ ‘What’s going on?’
This is Ps John Green, workplace chaplain, visiting staff at 400 workplaces across the Gold Coast. Ps John joined Juice 107.3 in studio for a chat about his work and how he brings hope to so many workplaces.
“It takes about 6 weeks, working Thursday and Friday, 6 hours per day. We’ve received a grant from the government because of the need that’s in the community. And for the first time, they’ve got a Chaplain out on the road.” Ps John shared.
Ps John faced some push-back at first, CEO’s who’ve never seen a Chaplain before suspicious of his presence in the office at first, “You should be in your church. They told me. I said, no, no, no, sir. We have chaplains in schools, hospitals, in the army, many places, and we believe that we need a Chaplain here.”
I love to meet the entrepreneurs and love to hear the stories of each business
“I love to meet the entrepreneurs and love to hear the stories of each business, how they began and what was the vision behind that.”
Working with Ps Mark Wheway, Kingdom Seekers cafe church, Ps John had the opportunity to bring chaplaincy to the community, supporting the nearly 30,000 employees in the area.
“I love people, and I love entrepreneurs, and I love what they do. Sometimes, of course, I would go and see the entrance of the shop and read something about it before I would go in and I would do a little bit of an icebreaker” Ps John shares.
Our passion is to reach the community and to help out because there’s a real need.
“I wear a blue vest, which says workplace chaplain… it’s funny because one of the guys thought I was an inspector and one guy there was wearing thongs instead of his steel cap boots. When he saw me, oh, I’m sorry, I’m sorry he was apologizing. I said, no, sir, it’s okay. I’m not an inspector. I’m your friendly neighborhood chaplain instead of Spider-Man, I just broke the ice. They all started laughing. I just love it. We’re working together with Mark Wheway. That’s our passion to reach the community and to help out because there’s a real need.”
